I'll be honest with you โ when I first started doing a pre-session prayer before trading, it felt a little formal. Almost performative. Like I was checking a box.
I kept doing it anyway. And slowly, something shifted.
What I actually pray
I don't have a script. But the core of it is always the same: Lord, I'm about to steward what You've given me. Help me see clearly. Help me follow the system and not my emotions. If the setup isn't there, give me the discipline to walk away. And whatever happens today, let it be an act of faithfulness.
That last part is the important one. Let it be an act of faithfulness.
What changed when I started
Three things happened that I didn't expect. First, my impatience dropped. When I'd taken a moment to be still before the session, I found it easier to wait for the actual setup instead of forcing trades out of boredom or FOMO.
Second, losses stung less. Not because they didn't matter โ they still mattered. But when I'd already surrendered the session to God before it started, a loss felt less like a personal failure and more like information. Part of the journey. Not the end of it.
Third, I started trading smaller on days I didn't pray. That told me something. On the days I skipped, I was more reckless. The prayer wasn't just ritual โ it was recalibration.
Before you open your platform, take 2 minutes. Be still. Acknowledge that the capital in your account is entrusted to you, not owned by you. Ask for clarity, patience, and discipline. Then open the charts.
The session is an act of worship
I know that sounds unusual. Trading as worship. But stewardship is worship. Managing faithfully what God has given you โ time, skill, capital โ is an act of honoring Him. The pre-session prayer is simply how I set that intention out loud before the market opens.
You don't have to pray the way I pray. But I'd encourage you to bring intentionality to how you start each session. The ritual matters. It shapes the mindset that shapes the trade.
